Keep Presents out of View
It's tempting to keep all your presents under the Christmas tree – this is how they are traditionally placed and it looks very festive. Unfortunately, this is also the first place that a burglar will head if they manage to get access to your home. We always suggest hiding them somewhere safely in your house until they need to be brought out. If you do want to keep your presents under the tree – make sure that it isn't in full view of any windows or doors. You don't know who is looking in!
Lock Up
We know that it's easy to get forgetful over the Christmas period – everyone is busy and excited. However, it's essential that you are remembering to do simple things like lock your doors and windows. An open door is an easy invitation to someone you definitely don't want entering your home – so don't do it! Even if you're just popping to the shop – lock up! It's not worth risking your home being broken into. Why not purchase a burglar alarm? This will alert you of any unwanted intrusions as well as acting as a visual deterrent to warn off any would-be burglars.
Keeps Lights On
Heading out for the evening? Leave lights on in your home to give the impression that someone is inside. Your house is less likely to be broken into when you're home – it's just too much of a risk for burglar. Therefore leaving a light on will actually deter them from evening trying! If you're heading away for a few days and don't want to leave a light on – ask a neighbour to park on your drive. Maybe they want extra parking for guests? This also gives the impression that people are home. Got garden lights? Keep these on too!
