What is a fire risk assessment?
A fire risk assessment is a structured review of a building to identify potential fire hazards, evaluate the risk to people, and determine the precautions needed to reduce or remove that risk. It’s about preventing fires and making sure people can safely escape if one does happen.
Who needs a fire risk assessment?
You must have a fire risk assessment if you are:
- A business owner, landlord, employer, or responsible person for a building
- In charge of a commercial property, HMO, shared space, retail unit, office, or industrial site
The law applies even if you have just one employee.
What does it involve?
