Deterring vandals from your property
Sometimes there is just no stopping mindless violence. In certain areas, violent or anti-social behaviour is just a fact of life. That doesn’t mean that you should just accept it and move on, however. Graffiti ‘artists’ scribing symbol and misspelt messages of love to your business’ walls – what can you do to prevent this kind of unwanted attention?
Flood them with Light
Although you can always resort to leaving a politely worded sign with a warning message, the effects will always be minimal. Bored individuals are actually more likely to actively rebel against any signs and so this measure could be seen as counter-productive.
On the other hand, vandals are quite likely to keep away from well-lit areas. If you have a particular problem with destructive vandalism, why not consider fitting movement sensitive lighting? It might not deter the more determined vandal, but it will put off opportunists.

Although considered by many to be an anti-social device in itself, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that it is also very effective in repelling those looking to cause mischief.
Keep your Valuables Away From Harm
Smashed windows and really bad ‘artwork’ can be annoying, but they won’t put a serious dent in your pocket. Targeted and malicious vandalism on your valuable possessions can provide a serious financial headache, however. You should therefore aim to protect your valuables by whatever means necessary.
There are many ways in which you can prevent the destruction of your possessions, but the best way is to simply keep it locked up and away from sight. This could even be a requirement from your insurance company. If there are some items that you need to keep outside, you should try to keep them in an open-air locked enclosure.
Ideally this enclosure should be protected by visible CCTV cameras. Not only will they help deter thieves and hooligans, but they will also help provide evidence should anything untoward happen. If possible, you should try to employ a patrol team to maintain vigilance. There are many reasons why a well-trained security team is an excellent addition to your work-place. The most relevant reason for this situation is that vandals are less likely to lurk in an area with people in it.
